For your convenience, we now collect
city taxes, so you only get and pay one
bill.
There is a
1% interest added to your property taxes
on the 21st of every month
until paid. By March of each year, a
10% penalty will be added, along with a
cost and FIFA charge. Once you are sent
to collections you will receive a
certified letter from DTS and a $50.00
admin fee is added. If the bill is not
paid within 30 days of that notice,
$100.00 is added to do a title search of
your property. If this property is
advertised, a $40.00 cost is added for
that expense.
We
urge you to pay your taxes on time or
make arrangements to avoid any
additional fees.
All mobile
homes must be registered in the Tax
Assessors Office. All mobile homes
require title to be applied for before
registering them. If you fail to
display your decal you can be sent to
magistrate court and fined. There is a
1% interest added on the 2nd
of every month until paid and a 10%
penalty, FIFA and cost added after 90
days past due. If your account remains
unpaid, we will post your mobile home.
Mobile homes have no rights of
redemption, therefore if sold, the
highest bidder may take possession that
day.
The
State of Georgia has a variety of tags
you can purchase. They all have
different prices, as well as
requirements.
Do you
qualify for a free tag?
Purple Heart – Retired Veteran –
Disabled Veteran - Prisoner of War-
Military
Please contact our office for this
information.
You can go to the Department of Motor
Vehicle web site to view all tags
available.
www.dmvs.ga.gov
If you purchase a new vehicle and trade
in your old one……..keep your tag.
As long as the tag and vehicle are in
the same name, we can transfer that tag
to your new vehicle. All vehicles that
are 1986 or newer require a title in
order to register or transfer it.
If you have a
problem paying your taxes and want to
avoid going to tax sale, please come see
us. We cannot waive any taxes or fees
but we can do a monthly contract with
you. We will discuss your hardship and
financial burden and if you qualify, we
will complete a contract between you and
the tax office. However, if you do not
abide by this contract you will be made
to pay in full or be put in the tax
sale. We do not want to sell any
residents property, but are forced to do
so when taxes, after many attempts,
remain unpaid.
Once
you are advertised in the Sylvester
Local, we can no longer do a contract or
payment arrangement.
Since January 1, 2001 we have
collected over $1,000,000 in back
taxes. We continue to collect these
taxes with the help of DTS, Inc.
www.gataxsales.com . The tax
office has retained this company, along
with over 50 other counties, to collect
delinquent taxes. This is at no cost to
the county, nor to those who have paid
their taxes.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will
trust, and not be afraid: for the
Lord is my strength and my song; he
also has become my salvation.
